PROFILE
Maximum the Hormone is a punk band with nu-metal and funk influences. Their style is reminiscent of bands like System Of A Down, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Ramones, which are, according to their songwriter Ryo, their major inspirations. Striking contrasts from pop-punk to thrash-metal sum up the sound of the band. These various styles, expertly displayed through Daisuke and Ryo's screaming vocals and the remarkable voice of his older sister and drummer, Nao, allow the band to fit well in several genres. The names and lyrics of their songs don't make a lot of sense, but the band doesn't want them to anyway. On top of putting out many long selling releases, Maximum the Hormone has committed themselves to showing their audience a great time, ensuring their lives will be exciting and fun for anyone who comes.

BIOGRAPHY
Maximum the Hormone was founded in 1998 in Hachiojo, a suburb of Tokyo. The original members were Daisuke, Nao, KEY and SUGI.After a couple regional gigs, the band signed a contract with the indie label Sky Records. A.S.A Crew was the first album released under that label. At that time Daisuke wrote his songs only in English, and 'Maximum the Hormone' was also written in Latin letters. That changed when KEY and SUGI left band in 1999.While looking for new members to join the band, Nao thought of her younger brother Ryo, who had been playing the guitar since his years in junior high school and could sing very well, too. From then on, the two men split up most of the vocals, Daisuke taking care of the screaming and rap vocals and Ryo the more melodic parts. Ue joined as well, completing the quartet as the bassist. After that major change the band decided to root their lyrics and band name in katakana to reflect the change in the band members. In August 2000, the band released their first single Bullpen Catcher's Dream and one year later their first mini album Otori. But their first real success came with the publication of the single ROLLING1000tOON which was used as ending theme for the anime "Airmaster" in 2003.In 2004, after the release of their fourth album, the band signed with major label VAP. That year they released two singles, but it wasn't until the following year when they released their album, Rokkinpo Goroshi, that they toured throughout Japan to promote the album. After more or less successful releases the quartet published the single Koi no Mega Lover in 2006, hitting number 9 in the Oricon charts, a huge achievement for the band.In February 2007, Maximum the Hormone contributed What's up, People?! and Zetsubou Billy, the opening and ending theme respectively, to the anime "DEATH NOTE", because they were sure about one thing: If their music suited one anime, it had to be "DEATH NOTE". Their contribution to the O.S.T. of this anime resulted in a popularity boost for the band, and their album Buiiki kaesu which came out in March ranked 4th in national sales, another huge success. In January 2008 they toured with ENTER SHIKARI from the UK and plan to strengthen their bonds with international artists. They also received greater exposure when they performed in early May at the mega event, the hide Memorial Summit, where they were a huge hit.Maximum the Hormone has proven that they're definitely a band to keep an eye out for; within a short period of time they gained a large fan base in Japan, and a considerable one outside of Japan as well. They've improved the quality of their sound with every album release so you can expect only the best from them.
